Animation prompts for architecture projects
Claude is the director who writes the prompt. The video tool is the camera that shoots it.
You describe your idea to Claude in your own words. Claude turns it into a precise English prompt, and you paste that into the video tool with your project image. Claude doesn't generate the video itself, but it can see the images you upload and translate the feeling in your head into film language the tool understands.
Six parts, each with a color you'll see again in the example.
Five steps
This is the whole guide in short. Each section after it explains one step.
- Tell Claude what you want"I want an animation prompt for my project image," and upload the image.
- Pick the video typeReference image, start frame, or start and end frames.
- Tell the story shot by shot, in orderWhat happens first, then next, then next.
- Add the feelingRealistic or stylized, camera movement, pacing, sound, and length.
- Paste the prompt into the video toolWith the image. If the result is off, go back to Claude and describe what went wrong.
Video types: choose before you write
The input type decides what you write. Golden rule: whatever the image already shows, don't repeat in words.
Text only
- You give the tool
- No image
- You write
- Everything: camera, scene, action, style
- Use it when
- You have a loose idea and no design yet
Reference image
- You give the tool
- The project image as a reference
- You write
- The story and shots; the tool invents angles around the project
- Use it when
- You want angles your image doesn't show, like the airplane example
Start frame
- You give the tool
- The image is the first frame
- You write
- Only what moves, and how the camera moves
- Use it when
- The video must open exactly on your render
Start + end frames
- You give the tool
- Two images
- You write
- The transition between them, not a description of each
- Use it when
- Day to night, exterior to entrance, or a seamless loop
- An end frame never works alone. It always needs a start frame.
- Use the same image as start and end and the clip returns to where it began, giving you a loop for social media.
- Some tools won't let you combine reference images with start and end frames in one video.
- Advanced: tools like Seedance accept image, video and audio references together. You point to them in the prompt as @image1, @video1, and say what each one is for.
| aerial drone shot, slow push-in |
| a car slowly approaches the entrance |
| golden hour, sun from the west |
| photorealistic real estate film |
| footsteps, wind, birds, no music |
| preserve the building design exactly |
The formula
Every animation prompt has six parts. It builds on Google's official prompting guide for Veo, adapted for architecture.
| Part | The question it answers | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | Where do we see from, and how does the camera move? | aerial drone shot, slow push-in |
| Action | Who or what moves? | a car slowly approaches the entrance |
| Place & time | What's around it, and what's the light? | golden hour, sun from the west |
| Style | What's the overall feel? | photorealistic real estate film |
| Sound | What do we hear? | footsteps, wind, birds, no music |
| Keep fixed | What must stay exactly as in the image? | preserve the building design exactly |
If you give a start frame
Drop place and style, because the image already says them. Focus on action, camera, sound and what stays fixed.
The timing rule
Instead of stacking adjectives like "dramatic and stunning," split the video into time beats. The tool knows what happens at each moment, and you know where it broke if the result is off.
0–3s: ... 3–6s: ... 6–10s: ...
Worked example: the airplane window
A real brief written to Claude, the prompt it returned, what worked and what could be better.
The brief
Design an animation prompt from a reference image. The video should open on an airplane window that the passenger slides open by hand. The window fills most of the shot, and the attached project appears through it. Then a professional transition to a bird's-eye view of the project, then the point of view of a person walking beside the project and looking at it, then the project's facade with the camera slowly pulling away. Everything should be realistic, the direction cinematic and professional, the camera always moving with no stops, and smooth time remapping that speeds up and slows down between shots.
Notice the brief names the input type first (reference image), then tells the story in order, then adds the feeling. That's exactly the five steps.
The prompt Claude returned
Cinematic, photorealistic single continuous shot, professional commercial architecture visualization, shot on ARRI Alexa with anamorphic lens, shallow depth of field, natural film grain, soft realistic lighting. SHOT 1 (0:00–0:03): Interior of airplane cabin, close on an airplane window. A passenger's hand reaches in from frame edge and slides the window shade open. The window shutter/frame occupies most of the frame (foreground element), slightly out of focus at edges. Through the window, in sharp focus, we see [the project] as if viewed from a cruising altitude — soft clouds partially obscuring the view, warm golden-hour sunlight, slight lens flare on the window plastic. TRANSITION (0:03–0:05): Smooth cinematic whip-transition / seamless morph — the camera appears to "fly through" the airplane window glass, motion-blurred whip pan, transforming into a bird's-eye (aerial drone) view of the same project from directly above, descending altitude, continuous camera movement, no cuts, no freeze frames. SHOT 2 (0:05–0:09): Aerial/drone perspective circling and descending toward [the project], revealing its layout, landscaping, and surroundings in realistic daylight. Camera continues descending smoothly, never stopping, easing into a lower angle. TRANSITION (0:09–0:10): Smooth speed-ramp — camera decelerates as it approaches ground level, motion blur eases into a crisp street-level shot. SHOT 3 (0:10–0:14): Street-level tracking shot, camera moves alongside a person walking near the project, in focus, glancing toward the building with a natural, candid expression. Camera tracks parallel to their walking pace, realistic gait, natural clothing movement, soft ambient occlusion, cinematic color grading. TRANSITION (0:14–0:16): Smooth push-in / speed ramp — camera accelerates past the walking person toward the building facade, seamless continuous motion. SHOT 4 (0:16–0:20): Camera arrives directly facing the main facade of [the project], then performs a slow, smooth zoom-out / dolly-out revealing the full architectural facade in a wide establishing shot, ending on a static-feeling but technically still slowly drifting final frame. STYLE NOTES: - Fully photorealistic, no cartoonish or stylized rendering - Continuous unbroken camera motion throughout — no hard cuts, no static holds - Use smooth time-remapping between shots: subtle speed ramps (slow-motion easing into fast whip transitions, then easing back to normal speed) to blend each scene seamlessly into the next - Consistent lighting logic (golden hour / soft daylight) across all shots - Realistic human movement, realistic cloud/sky physics, realistic architectural materials and reflections - Professional cinematic color grade (teal-orange or neutral commercial real-estate style grading) - Depth of field shifts naturally with each transition to guide viewer's eye - No text overlays, no logos, no artificial UI elements
What worked
- Every shot has a clear time range, so the tool knows what happens each second.
- The camera is described in precise film language instead of the word "professional."
- Transitions are written as their own beats, with how they happen.
- Lighting stays consistent across shots, so the time of day doesn't jump.
What could be better
- No line protecting the design. Without it the tool may change the building, especially from angles your image doesn't show.
- No sound. The pink part is missing entirely.
- 20 seconds is long. Most tools generate 8 to 15 seconds per pass, so split it into two clips and join them in editing.
- Speed ramps aren't always executed precisely by the tools. It's safer to add them in editing.
Filling the gaps: add two sentences to your brief
You don't need to write the English yourself. Add these two sentences to your brief, and Claude will add the two missing parts to the prompt.
Keep the project's design exactly as in the reference image, without adding, removing or changing any element.
No music for the sound, only natural sounds from what happens in the video, edited to match the speed-ups and slow-downs.
Claude then returns these two lines in the prompt:
Preserve the project's architecture exactly as in the reference image: same geometry, proportions, facade materials and openings. Do not add, remove or redesign any element. Audio: no music. Natural sounds only, such as cabin hum, the window shade sliding, wind, birds and footsteps, edited tightly to match the speed ramps.
Finding the idea with Claude
You don't need a finished idea. Start with what you have and let Claude help with the rest.
- Write the idea as it is, in any language, even if it's vague, and ask Claude to ask you questions before writing.
- Upload reference images from a film, a post or Pinterest, and ask Claude to translate their feeling into film terms: shot type, lens, lighting and color.
- Ask for three different directions for the same idea before committing to one.
- Ask Claude to break the idea into a shot list, since the tools generate short clips.
- After generating, go back and describe what went wrong, or upload a frame from the video.
Brief template for Claude
Copy it and fill it in. It makes sure Claude knows everything it needs.
Video tool I'll use: ... Video type: text / reference image / start frame / start + end Length and format: ... seconds, 9:16 or 16:9 The idea in one line: ... The story, shot by shot: ... The feeling: ... Time of day and light: ... (only if you have no image) Must stay fixed: building design, logo, ... Sound: silent / natural sounds / dialogue (images attached) Write the prompt in English, and ask me first if anything is missing.
You only need the time-of-day and light line when you make a video from text with no image. If you attach a reference or start image, its lighting is already there, and describing different light can push the tool to change how the project looks. Delete the line in that case.
The tool name matters: each tool has its own syntax and maximum length.
Essentials not to forget
Run through this list before every generation.
- A line protecting the building design is in the prompt.
- One shot per 2.5 to 3 seconds at most.
- One main camera move per shot.
- A clean, high-resolution start image that shows the ground and shadows, so the building doesn't look like it floats.
- Time of day and sun direction are stated, if the video is from text with no image.
- Length and aspect ratio are set in the tool's settings.
- Editing work is kept out of the prompt: speed ramps, music and text.
| الأسلوب تغيّر | أضف preserve the same style and color palette. |
If this happens, do this
The most common problems and the quickest fix for each.
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| The building changed | Strengthen the preserve line, use a start frame instead of a reference, and ask for fewer new angles. |
| The camera is chaotic | One move per shot, a slow push-in, or a locked-off camera. |
| The style drifted | Add preserve the same style and color palette. |
| Motion is too weak | Make the main action phrase more specific. |
| People or hands look wrong | Move the person further from camera, or reduce hand movement. |
| Shots feel crammed | Use fewer shots, or split into clips and join them in editing. |
| The building looks like it floats | Use an image where the ground and shadows are clearly visible. |
| Speed ramps don't work | Generate at normal speed and ramp it in your editor. |

Extras
Four things that save you time and money.
- Keeping a person consistent: if the same person appears in several clips, use one reference image of them every time and ask to keep their features.
- Cost: test with the fast, cheaper versions first, then generate the final at high quality.
- Rights: avoid real people's faces without permission and protected characters or brands, and note that some tools add a watermark.
- Make Claude your standing director: put this guide in a Claude Project's instructions, so it applies the formula in every chat without you explaining again.
